Delta State politician and advocate for good governance, Amb. Dr. Temisan O. Louis-Mayorkings, has officially announced his defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP).
The announcement was made in a public statement where he reaffirmed his commitment to building a better Nigeria through the principles of peace, equity, and progress.
According to Mayorkings, his decision to join the NNPP reflects his determination to continue contributing meaningfully to nation-building and the development of Delta State and Nigeria at large.
Reflecting on the 2023 general elections, he disclosed that he sacrificed his ambition to represent the people of Sapele, Okpe, and Uvwie Federal Constituency in order to support the governorship bid of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori. He stated that he devoted his personal resources and political structure to the governor's campaign.
Mayorkings also recalled founding and personally funding the Sheriff O'Clock Movement (SOM), a political pressure group which he claimed contributed more than 5,000 votes to Oborevwori and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) during the election.
While praising Governor Oborevwori for ongoing infrastructural development across Delta State, Mayorkings urged the governor to pay greater attention to human capital development, describing it as the fastest path to sustainable growth and prosperity.
He further called for increased industrialization across key sectors of the state's economy, stressing that creating employment opportunities for young people should remain a top priority.
The NNPP member also commended the organizers of the forthcoming Delta State Investment Summit, particularly the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emu Kingsley, expressing confidence that the event would strengthen Delta State's position as a leading investment destination in Nigeria and across Africa.
Despite his change of political party, Mayorkings declared that he would once again support Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2027 governorship election. However, he noted that although he disagrees with some of the governor's recent political decisions, his support remains personal to the governor and does not necessarily extend to all of the governor's political choices.
He also hinted that he may contest an elective office in the 2027 general elections, promising to make his intentions known in the coming weeks while seeking the support and blessings of the people.
The announcement has generated reactions within Delta State's political landscape, as observers watch closely to see how his move to the NNPP could influence political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
