A Covenant University Electrical and Electronic Engineering graduate completing his MSc in Artificial Intelligence and Business Strategy at Aston University in Birmingham, United Kingdom, Dominic is the founder of Vorem and the inventor behind a pending UK patent in verifiable AI accountability (GB2611754.9). His open-source research instrument, ai-code-quality-auditor, has surpassed 1,500 downloads worldwide. His research highlights a critical vulnerability in modern AI benchmarking: commercial AI coding agents can produce incorrect systems while still passing standard diagnostic tests. Since starting Vorem in Nigeria in 2017 with a single laptop and no external funding, Dominic has trained over 2,900 learners and reached more than 12,000 people across four continents. Your open-source tool, ai-code-quality-auditor, has surpassed 1,500 global downloads. What driven necessity prompted you to build an instrument specifically for auditing AI system outputs? Thank you for having me on The IconicHim Spotlight. The tool emerged directly from my dissertation research at Aston University into commercial AI coding agents. In a controlled study, I observed an AI agent build an entirely different system from what was specified, yet it passed every standard test applied to it. It was confidently wrong, and invisible to every benchmark we currently trust. That exposed a dangerous gap: as society rushes to deploy AI across finance, health, and governance, we are trusting benchmarks that fail to verify if the machine actually built what it was instructed to build. Question 2 You hold a pending UK patent application (GB2611754.9) in verifiable AI accountability. Why is the “accountability gap” particularly dangerous for emerging markets across Africa adopting AI in lending, hiring, and public services? AI now decides critical outcomes about people's lives—who gets a bank loan, who gets an interview, or who gets flagged by administrative systems. In many African markets, adoption is accelerating, but almost nobody can independently prove what the machine actually did or why. When an AI system cannot be checked or audited, the person who suffers is never the one with power. Verifiable accountability ensures that technology serves society with fairness and transparency rather than opaque authority. Question 3 In March 2026, you spoke at the FrontierTechX summit at the University of Birmingham alongside UK policymakers, members of the House of Lords, and the Mayor of the West Midlands. What key message did you bring to the global stage regarding AI literacy and governance? My message centered on the democratizing of AI literacy alongside rigorous verification standards. AI governance cannot remain an abstract debate in Western boardrooms while systems are deployed globally. We must ensure that technical literacy is widely distributed so that developers and leaders in regions like Africa can audit, build, and challenge the AI infrastructure shaping their economies. Global tech governance requires global participation and verifiable standards. Question 4 When asked why your AI course and books remain free to the public, you made a striking analogy to your final year engineering project at Covenant University—an automatic 5KVA changeover inverter. How does that project reflect your life's work? In Nigeria, a changeover inverter is the box that comes on when the light goes off. My final year project taught me that access is always the real barrier, never human intelligence or capability. When the main power grid fails, people need a reliable backup system to keep moving forward. I build the thing that comes on when the main supply fails—I have just never gone back to building it out of copper. Providing free, high-grade AI education is my way of keeping the lights on for thousands of aspiring African engineers. Question 5 As a celebrated engineer and innovator featured in “The IconicHim Spotlight,” what advice do you offer to young African engineers and researchers building technology for global relevance? Master the fundamental mechanics of your discipline and never be intimidated by global standards. Focus on solving hard, structural problems—like system verification, security, and accessibility—rather than chasing temporary tech trends. Anchor your research in integrity, document your work rigorously, and ensure that whatever you build expands human agency rather than restricting it.
