ACCRA — Ghana is strengthening its cocoa value chain with new eco-certified export guidelines and the opening of three large local processing plants.
The initiative is designed to move the country's cocoa industry beyond the traditional export of raw beans and increase domestic production of processed cocoa and chocolate products.
By encouraging value addition inside Ghana, authorities expect farmers and businesses to benefit from greater revenues generated within the local economy.
The development forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana's agricultural sector and increase the country's participation in higher-value international markets.
