MOMBASA, KENYA — Kenya has unveiled a new initiative focused on strengthening tourism along its Indian Ocean coastline and attracting more international visitors to the region.
The plan is expected to promote Kenya's coastal destinations while creating greater opportunities for hotels, tour operators, restaurants, transport providers and other businesses that depend on tourism.
Officials said the initiative will also place greater emphasis on improving the visitor experience and supporting communities that benefit from the tourism sector.
Kenya's coastline is known for its beaches, historic sites and cultural attractions, making tourism an important part of the local economy.
Authorities are expected to work with tourism operators and other stakeholders as the new programme is implemented.
The initiative comes as African countries continue to explore ways of expanding tourism and increasing the economic benefits generated by international visitors.
