MBABANE, ESWATINI — Taiwan has proposed a $31.6 million industrial development project in Eswatini aimed at establishing a major innovation and manufacturing cluster in the Southern African region.
Taiwan's Foreign Ministry submitted a budget proposal for the construction of the Taiwan Industrial Innovation Park (TIIP), with the project valued at approximately NT$1 billion.
The proposed development will occupy about 158 hectares near the Royal Science and Technology Park in Phocweni.
The initiative is designed to position Eswatini as a strategic industrial hub, with planned activities expected to focus on sectors including textiles, pharmaceuticals and clean energy.
The proposed industrial park could provide a platform for companies to establish manufacturing operations while encouraging collaboration between international businesses and local economic institutions.
According to the information provided, more than 60 international companies have already visited the proposed site as part of efforts to explore participation in the industrial cluster initiative.
The project is being presented as part of a broader effort to promote industrial development, technological innovation and investment opportunities in Eswatini.
If implemented, the park could contribute to the diversification of the country's industrial base while strengthening its potential role in regional supply chains.
The proposal also reflects growing interest in developing specialised industrial clusters that bring businesses, technology and production facilities together in one location.
For Eswatini, the proposed investment represents an opportunity to attract international businesses and develop new economic activities around manufacturing and innovation.
